How to Clear Any Clogged Drain

The plugs are most of the time the result of an accumulation of waste from the pipes (kitchen, toilets, bathroom …). To prevent the accumulation of this waste from creating a piping problem, here are a few lines of maintenance and cleaning advice to follow on a regular basis for your pipes.

Why do I need to maintain the pipes?

The pipes are generally subject to blockages caused by the accumulation of waste (hair, food, grease, etc.)

A well-maintained pipeline is spared from obstruction problems and bad odors. However, unmaintained pipelines can be damaged, and lead to heavy renovation costs, which can be avoided with regular maintenance.

How to maintain the pipes on a regular basis?

There are simple methods of maintaining pipelines that can prevent inconvenience to your piping.

  • Avoid letting waste flow into the siphon, instead collect it each time you use it.
  • Use boiling water

When you notice that the flow becomes difficult, don’t hesitate to use boiling water to dissolve the grease and the soap scum.

  • Prepare ice cubes of white vinegar to put each week in your levers and leave to act for 20 minutes before rinsing.
  • Make a mixture of 50 g of baking soda, 50 g of salt and 15 cl of white vinegar. Pour all the mixture into your pipes and leave to act for 30 minutes before rinsing.
  • Mix soda crystals in lukewarm water to pour into the siphon and leave to act for about 30min

For those who are more chemical, you can for example:

  • Use liquid or spill gel soda unblockers in your pipes and leave to act for about 15 minutes.
  • Use a high depressant cleaner

Know that all these techniques are effective if they are adopted on a regular basis. However, if despite these attempts your pipes remain clogged with no alternative solution, at this time, it would be time to call a plumbing professional.
